Police are linking three distraction burglaries which have occurred in Andover. Two offences took place on Friday, July 11 between 11.30am and 12.30pm.
The first incident took place at a property in Hepworth Close. A man called at the address and asked the homeowner, a man in his 70s, for cash to complete work on his house.
The homeowner became suspicious and told the man to leave. The man did not gain entry to the property and nothing was stolen.
The second took place at an address in Acre Court. The homeowner, a woman in her 90s, answered the door to a man who claimed she needed work done to her pipes.
The man was let inside the property and asked for cash in order to carry out the work. Some money was handed over; however no work was completed at the property. After the man left the homeowner realised that a further quantity of cash was missing from her bedroom.
The following day, Saturday, July 12, at between 2.00pm and 3.00pm the man returned to the address and said that further work needed to be carried out. He distracted the homeowner, carried out a search of the premises and stole a further quantity of cash.
Detective Constable Nigel Horner of Andover CID said: “We believe these incidents are linked due to the similarities in the descriptions of the caller and the method used to attempt to gain entry to the property.
“I would appeal to anyone who may have seen someone acting suspiciously or any unfamiliar vehicles, in Acre Court or Hepworth Close on Friday morning or Saturday afternoon to contact us.
