On Wednesday 25 June, the first of the follow-up CREWs (Community Respect and Environment Week) took place in King Arthur’s Way and Anton Lakes Nature Reserve to support the work of the week-long CREW held last September.
During the one-day event, Test Valley Borough Council, Hampshire Police and Testway Housing focussed their attention and worked with the local community to continue to reduce anti-social behaviour and crime and to undertake activities to improve and enhance the local environment.
The day was a success as more than one and a half tonnes of fly-tipped materials were removed and almost one tonne of street sweepings were collected. Grassed areas were cut and shrubs were cut back. Graffiti was also removed and four vehicles were investigated for abandonment. In addition, two Fixed Penalty Notices were issued for littering offences and three households were advised how to keep their gardens tidy and waste free.
During the day, officers from Test Valley Borough Council manned a stand outside Askalot and spoke to members of the local community about local environmental issues and anti-social behaviour and over 40 Stubbis (pocket ashtrays) and 25 reusable shopping bags were given away.
Hampshire Police focussed their attention on investigating incidents of graffiti and the problem of mini-motos. Officers knocked on doors, delivered leaflets and discussed these issues with residents and the feedback was very positive. Testway Housing conducted two estate inspections throughout the day.
