The Image Manager is used to manage images in the content for the site. First you need to pull up the image manager. To do this just click on the icon.
You will now get a pop up with the image manager. The first box has the address for the directory you are currently looking at. The next box has a number of folder icons and images in it. You can scroll along to view all the images available. If the image is already uploaded to the system just click on the image to select it. Under the box with the image files is the box with the path to the image. This gets filled in automatically when you select an image. Under this is a box labelled alternative text. You need to complete this with a title for the image. This is used when the image cannot be displayed or has been requested not to be displayed. It is also used by screen reader software that many people with a visual impairment use. Without it they will not know what the image is. Next is a box for you to upload an image. Click the browse button, so that your PC can show you where your image files are. Find the image you wish to use and then click on the upload button. The image is then uploaded to the folder you are currently viewing. We suggest leaving it as the default. To the right of these boxes are further information boxes in two columns. First are two boxes these are the width and height, these are linked together. These set the size of the image in your document. The standard width for the document is 400 pixels, so please make sure you do not set this any larger. Under the size is a box for Alignment this chooses where in your text the image will appear. This is relevant to where the cursor is. We suggest that you choose one of three options. Either LEFT, RIGHT or MIDDLE. Under alignment is a tick box with constrain proportions. Leave this ticked. It makes sure when you amend the size of the image that it changes size in proportion, so the image doesn't get distorted. To the left of size you are able to set the vertical and horizontal spacing around the image. This sets the gap between the image and the text and therefore prevents the text becoming unreadable. The last box is to set the thickness of the border to the image. This is a simple black border, if you leave the box blank then no border is visible. If you are uploading any image please ensure that they are all images meet the following:
Max dimensions of 400 x 400 pixels Max 50KB in size Must be of the JPEG type
All other images are not supported.
To ensure that your image fulfils these requirements. Check your image (Windows) go to the image file and then without clicking on the image put your mouse icon over the image. A box should now appear with the information on the image. It will give the dimensions in pixels i.e. 400 x 326, the date, the picture type i.e. JPEG and the size i.e. 37KB
If your image is not of the correct size or type you will need to change your image. This can easily be done with the software you received with your digital camera or scanner. If you still have issues adding any image please email us the image and give us your username and the title of the article or the event you wish the image to add the image to. Send the email to the site editor. |
